As Singapore Air prepares for the maiden commercial flight of the Airbus A380, I thought it might be nice to highlight some of the luxurious possibilities of the new Super Jumbo. French fashion house Givenchy designed pumpkin color leather bedroom suites, fine linens, and intricately detailed dinner plates for the Singapore Air Airbus A380. These “class beyond first” suites will also include upholstery crafted by those who have created interiors for Ferrari and Maserati, and a 22″ flatscreen TV. The suites will be available for about 1/4 more than you would expect to pay for a standard first class ticket. While the Givenchy design could reshape the way we think about commercial travel, there are custom versions of the Airbus A380 that will trump anything we regular fliers get to see (and probably anything most private jets have to offer). Keep reading to catch a glimpse of the new standard of airborne luxury… |
One custom Airbus A380 (designed by Edese Doret for an “undisclosed client”) will contain an entry lounge, a grand lounge (featured above), a dining room for 14, a library, a stateroom, and more. The plane will also offer its owner a VIP bedroom, a rumored whirlpool, and several televisions the size of an average living room. Visit the CNN Money slide show for some great pictures.
The scale of the Airbus A380 gives it the potential to bring luxury air travel to a whole new level. For those of us who can’t purchase our own jumbo jet, we may still get a chance to experience a bit of the good life on a commercial Airbus A380. However, there is a feeling that most Americans will have to wait several years before the A380 is even a viable option. In the meantime, we can at least monitor its progress and catch a glimpse of all its amenities.
