Airbus A380 Takes to the Skies!

The long wait is finally over. After seemingly countless delays and setbacks, the Airbus A380 has made its first commercial voyage. The new Singapore Air super jumbo jet, said to be unlike any other commercial craft, departed Singapore’s Changi Airport on-time and headed out on its journey to Sydney, Australia. The mood onboard is said to have been a festive one, with champagne toasts and rounds of applause. It’s important to remember that many of the people aboard the flight paid big money for their tickets in online auctions (with proceeds going to charity).

Keep reading to get all the details of the super-jumbo’s maiden commercial voyage…

As reported by MSNBC, those who chose to fly in the Airbus A380’s bedroom suites did not regret the choice:

“‘I have never been in anything like this in the air before in my life,’ said Australian Tony Elwood, reclining with his wife, Julie, on the double bed in their private first class suite. ‘It is going to make everything else after this simply awful,’ he said, sipping Dom Perignon rose after a lunch of marinated lobster and double boiled chicken soup. He paid $50,000 for the two places.”

Of course, a successful maiden voyage doesn’t erase the problems Airbus has had in the development of the A380, and it doesn’t change the fact that Airbus hasn’t seen the number of orders for the A380 that many believe they need to make this all worth their while, but for one day we can ignore all that and just appreciate a historical moment in commercial air travel. As a co-worker of mine would say, “it’s a big, beautiful plane.” And who doesn’t like big, beautiful planes?
