Now it’s Continential’s turn. They’ve come out with a $10 round-trip airfare increase, on over 13,000 city-pairs, and we’re talking both business and leisure fares (I spotted this significant activity last night, thanks to FareCompare’s superior airfare processing engine). |
This is the 6th airfare increase since Labor Day weekend! And, the previous 5-increases were relatively “sticky” for the legacy carriers (though less so for the lower-cost airlines, and they only participated to a minor extent).
My take on all this? Well, the legacy airlines are feeling pretty good about having the right mix of domestic supply-and-demand as the holiday buying season winds down, and they don’t want fuel prices to derail their recent financial successes.
