Think that LAX to JFK flight is a bear? Well then, take a look at the “Top 6 Longest Commercial Flights” out there. They make those transcontinental flights seem like nice little jaunts. Just click “more” and believe me, you’ll know what I’m talking about! |
In November of 2005, a Boeing 777-200LR set the record for longest distance flown by a commercial aircraft when it departed Hong Kong and journeyed 11,664 nautical miles to London’s Heathrow Airport. That’s still the “world” record, but the non-stop Hong Kong-to-London isn’t a regularly scheduled commercial flight.
Here are the longest non-stop trips you can take on a regular basis:
- Newark - Singapore (9,524 miles) on a Airbus A340-500 operated by Singapore Airlines
- Singapore - Los Angeles (8,758 miles) on a Airbus A340-500 operated by Singapore Airlines
- Bangkok - New York (8,663 miles) on a Airbus A340-500 operated by Thai Airways
- Bangkok - Los Angeles (8,256 miles) n a Airbus A340-500 operated by Thai Airways
- Dubai - Houston (8,150 miles) on a Boeing 700-200LR Worldliner operated by Emirates
- Washington - Johannesburg (8,132 miles) on a Airbus A340-600 operated by South African Airways
These flights average a laptop battery popping 16-18 hours.
Next week, I’ll highlight the shortest commercial flights (with over 100 seats), you’ll be surprised at the number of full size jets that travel less than 100 miles (maybe a race is in order as long as we include clearing security and boarding time …)
