American Eagle is Leaving the Nest

Filed under: Airlines, News — Rick Seaney @ 1:09 pm

The parent of American Airlines, the AMR Corp. says it will sell or spin-off its regional carrier, American Eagle, sometime next year.

And, as it often the case with such pronouncements, AMR’s stock promptly rose.

So what is American Eagle worth?

Hard to say, at this point. American Eagle generates an annual revenue of more than $2-billion with its 1,700-flights a day throughout North America. Investors have been urging AMR to sell it, as a way to raise profits, but some analysts say rising fuel prices could effect American Eagle’s price tag…a price tag nobody’s revealing, just yet.

PlaneBuzz is a great source for all things airline and has a nice rundown of this story — so check it out on this topic and any time you want the inside scoop on what is going on in aviation.
