On-Time Departures (30-Nov.): Fast Cars, True Love, and the TSA

November 30, 2007 | Posted in: Airline News

Some of my favorite bloggers covered stories that ran the travel industry gamut this week. You can get tips on meeting the guy or girl of your dreams while waiting for a plane, how to rent the perfect sports car, and much more. Keep reading to see what stories you might have missed…

Love is in the Air
Had trouble meeting the person of your dreams at the local watering hole or online? Maybe the airport is the place for you. Gadling has a post that sheds some light on how airports could be the perfect place to find love. Learn both the “direct approach” and the “subtle approach” to connecting with your possible soulmate while in the air or at the gate.

Holiday Travel Help-Line
The Coalition for a Passengers Bill of Rights is setting up a hotline to help any travelers over the holiday. They’ll offer weather info, flight status, and more.

Happy Birthday from the TSA
As reported by The Consumerist, the TSA might need some more information from you in order to improve their background checks.

“Under a TSA proposal published in August, airlines and travel agents would be required to ask people reserving flights for their birth date, gender and full name. Travelers, however, would not be required to give the new information.”

The airlines and travel agents aren’t buying it. Check out the Consumerist post, and let me know what you think about these proposed security measures.

Not Your Average Flight Attendants
Being a flight attendant on Air Force One isn’t like being a flight attendant on a basic commercial flight. My colleagues at Standard Upright Position (via the Wall Street Journal) did a post that explores these flight attendants’ training in everything from survival skills to cooking. It’s an interesting look at a side of the airline industry you rarely get to see.

It Corners Like It’s On Rails
Who hasn’t dreamed of renting a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or some other lighting-fast exotic sports car? I’m not the only one, right? Well, if you’ve thought about getting behind the wheel of one of these speed demons, you should visit the Perrin Post. They have a great post that highlights exotic car dealers and some of the things you need to know before you commit put your money and safety in the hands of an exotic car rental agency.

Have a great weekend!

Just arrived back in Arkansas after our trip to Kuai, Hawaii — interviewed by your team in DFW.
Why didn’t you tell us the weather in Kuai would be
dismal? Anyway — it was still paradise for the two
old folks. Decided to checkout your website. Nice.
    Will return.

Question: Did we make it off the cutting room floor?

    Answer: Guess not!

The 20/20 spot comes on this Friday, no telling what will make it …? I hope you had a wonderful trip
