Delta Air Lines $20 Roundtrip Increase Falters

December 3, 2007 | Posted in: Airfare News,Airline News

In yesterday evenings 5:00pm EST and this mornings 10:00am EST domestic airfare distributions the FareCompare.com proprietary airfare processing system noted significant rollback activity by several legacy airlines related to the attempted $20 roundtrip increase by Delta Air Lines early last week.

Continental Airlines did not match over the weekend and late Sunday evening United Airlines rolled back most of the previously increased city pairs in the 5:00pm EST airfare distribution.

This morning in the 10:00am airfare distribution, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines all rolled back the $20 roundtrip airfare hike in the bulk of their previously increased city pairs…

It is unclear whether the lack of Continental Airlines participation or other factors initiated the rollback by United Airlines late Sunday, but once United Airlines rolled back — it was pretty clear the other legacy airlines would soon follow which they have this morning.

US Airways has not rolled back yet but I would expect them to do so shortly.

In the past few years it has not been unusual to see increase attempts falter, however this is the first widely matched increase since Labor Day weekend (10 attempts, 9 widely matched) that has failed.
