The conventional wisdom is, if you’re running for office these days, you cannot depend on commercial aviation. The schedules just don’t mesh with the candidates’ schedules (well, obviously they don’t have me and FareCompare plotting their moves, as we did for Grumpy Santa’s marathon flight-fest). So, the presidential contenders use private jets. That’s expensive. And it just got a lot more expensive, as you’ll see if you click “more.” |
Starting this past Sept. 14, candidates can no longer pay discount rates for transportation on private jets.
In a fascinating article in the Boston Globe, the reporter points out that the new law seeks to prevent “excessive gifts[s]” from supporters who may represent special interests.
Some candidates never took advantage of the “discounts” from supporters with jets, but others did. Now they’ll have to pay the full freight…an astonishing $2,000 to $9,000 an hour.
Or, they can rely on FareCompare…and commercial aviation!
