Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines have both matched the doubling of the fuel surcharge from $20 to $40 initiated by Continental Airlines late yesterday evening - leaving American, United and US Airways on the sidelines for the moment. In the past several airfare increase attempts, Delta Air Lines has been quick to pull the matching trigger (almost always within half a day) where Northwest Airlines has usually been late to the party (one of the last to join in)… |
It is highly likely that the rest of the legacy airlines will finish off matching later today and definitely over the weekend.
Air travelers contemplating airline ticket purchases should be aware that they have a short window to save up to $20 (midnight tonight on these non matching airlines) and may run into a rollback early next week which has occurred in the past 2 increase attempts in as many weeks.
I will update if/when significant airline activity occurs related to this most recent fuel surcharge increase attempt.
