US Airways, United, Delta & Continental Match Southwest Cheap Airfare Sales

February 5, 2008 | Posted in: Airline News,Delta,United,US Airways

The nationwide sale is one in a line of Southwest Airlines airfare sales that have hit the market of late. This latest Southwest Airlines Nationwide sale offers airfare for $49+ to $99+ one-way to cities all over the country, and it’s good for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between February 19th and June 25th.

Well, other major airlines don’t seem to be wasting any time in matching Southwest. Some competition is stirring, and this can mean great savings and a variety of options for travelers. Keep reading for a breakdown of all the action…

We’re seeing United, US Airways, Continental, and Delta drop prices on a range of routes. United and US Airways are both matching on several coast-to-coast flights ($99+ each way), and Continental and Delta have matched airfares on popular Southwest routes, including several out of Albuquerque.

The over-lap of routes is about 90%, so the airfare decreases from the legacy airlines are clearly a reaction to the Southwest sale.

As of yet, Southwest’s cross-town rival American Airlines hasn’t made any broad moves, but that doesn’t mean they won’t later today or even later this week. We’ll keep you updated as changes occur. In the meantime, you can get all the details on the Southwest Airlines Nationwide Airfare Sale from our Travel Deals blog.
