TIPS: Cheap Airfare (for the Whole Clan) on St. Patrick’s Day

Filed under: Holiday Travel, Pricing Activity, Tips and Tricks — Rick Seaney @ 1:53 pm

Good News: You don’t have to be Irish to get together for a mid-March family reunion (but it doesn’t hurt!).

Better News: This year, St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) is on a Monday.

    Yes, a Monday.

Why is that good? Because you can save on a mini-family vacation. Just click “more”, for 2-great tips that’ll work really well for St. Paddy’s Day.

TIP #1 - St. Patrick’s Day is on a Monday, which makes it ideal for a quick vacation that allows you to get the cheapest airfare. Pick a destination, and fly in on a Saturday, and depart on Tuesday. Remember, the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; this is one holiday that meshes perfectly.

TIP #2 - Get the entire clan together, but don’t buy the tickets all at once. Buy them one at a time. If you buy, say, 4-at once, and the airline only has 2-plane tickets at their very cheapest price, they won’t sell you those 2, and then sell you the next 2 at the next highest price. Instead, they will sell you all 4 at the higher price. Again, buy them one at a time, and you’ll get the lowest available price for each ticket.

Now, wear some green and have some fun!
