Find Cheap Airfare to NYC…THEN Take the Staten Island Ferry–Quick!

Filed under: Destinations, New York — Rick Seaney @ 12:35 pm

Did you know that some of the most gorgeous views of Manhattan are available to you from the Staten Island Ferry?

I am talking about “Wow!” views of the Statue of Liberty, the New York City skyline, and more.

And did you know, the Staten Island Ferry is free? Well, it is for now, anyway.

Better keep reading…

The Staten Island Ferry is used by about 60,000 people a day, many of them commuters, but plenty of tourists ride it as well, tourists who know a bargain when they see one. You can even take a bicycle on board at no charge. There’s no charge at all! Unless…

Unless a suggestion from the Independent Budget Office of New York City is adopted. According to an article in Newsday, the suggestion is this: charge tourists $4-per round-trip fare (and a nominal fee for commuters) which could raise $3.4-million in tax revenue each year.

At this point, this is just one idea among many to raise city revenues; it may never happen. But even if it does, well, $4 for a iconic vista really isn’t too much to pay.

But if you’re a thrifty sort, go now (just in case!) and save.
