Why Shakespeare Shouldn’t Fly, Even With a Cheap Ticket

Filed under: Airport, Delays, Security — Rick Seaney @ 10:24 am

You see air travel stories in the darnedest places; I saw this one in the New York Post’s famed “Page Six” gossip column:

Here’s the scene: comedian Chuck Nice was at the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport over the weekend, when it was announced his flight to New York was delayed.

That’s when Nice started spouting Shakespeare; and that’s when airline personnel gave his act a very, VERY bad review.

What Chuck Nice did when he learned of the delay (and he’s the star of VH1’s show, “Best Week Ever”) was to start declaiming, in a fake English accent, a sort of Shakespearian solo: “Outrageous! Outrageous I tell you! Brethren,” he said to his fellow passengers, “this is our moment, shall we be treated like cattle herded about the country? Let us rise up together! What say you?”

Problem is, nobody said anything. No laughs, no nothing. Except for the cops; yes, somebody with the (unnamed) airline called them, and they took Nice away for a little chat.

When the police first showed up, though, Nice tried to explain that he was just going for a laugh, that he was just a comic, but a flight attendant quickly cut in saying, “No, he’s not a comic. He’s a moron and an idiot!”

The comic/moron/idiot missed that flight, but eventually got on another that was…yep, delayed. No Shakespeare this time, though.

    1. Not a particularly nice thing for a flight attendant to say about a paying customer. But with attitudes like, is it any wonder that airline service is going down the tubes in this country?

    2. Which airline was that? I would not fly them again if I were Chuck Nice!! What happened to our sense of humor? Must we be so uptight??

    3. Rick,
Why don’t you name the airline? Don’t you agree their shoddy treatment of passengers needs to be openly publicized and the airlines specifically named? Otherwise, what good are you if you are protecting them?
Or are you afraid of confrontation and getting sued?

    4. Hi, Gary…
I would have named the airline, but the original source did not. We did make an effort on our own to find out this information, but so far we’ve received no responses. If we do, we’ll update this.
