Go figure. According to the just released monthly statistics from the Department of Transportation (DOT) for February of this year, more flights were cancelled in February 2008 than in January 2008. And, the airlines “on time” arrival rate was worse as well, at 68.6% compared with 72.4% for January. The best on time rate? Unfortunately, the prize went to the now defunct Aloha Airlines (ouch!). Good news? Yes, there was some, and it has to do with our luggage. Keep reading for details. |
There were fewer cases of “mishandled” luggage: February’s rate was 6.39 mishandled bags per 1,000, while back in January the rate was 7.37. That’s moving in the right direction!
And maybe that’s why complaints were down: in February, the DOT received 936 complaints about airline service (from consumers), compare with 1,174 in January. Things are looking up (or, we just got tired of complaining).
