Did You Know? Busiest Flight Routes by Region

April 8, 2008 | Posted in: Uncategorized

Each year, OAG (Official Airline Guide) compiles a list of the busiest flight routes by global region (and throws the busiest international route in for good measure). The OAG’s lists are based on the number of weekly flights for a particular route; they do not take into account the number of passengers on those flights.

There were some close races, but clear “winners” did emerge, so keep reading to see which routes play host to the most flights week after week…

Busiest International Flight Route

Busiest Flight Route within Europe

  • Barcelona – Madrid – 971 flights/wk (**Barcelona – Madrid is the busiest flight route in the world.)

Busiest Flight Route within North America

Busiest Flight Route within the Asia/Pacific

Busiest Flight Route within Latin America

Busiest Flight Route within the Middle East

Busiest Flight Route within Africa

Offered seats/wk would be more meaningful than flights/wk… And as you say flying passengers/wk is even better :)

  2. Adam says:

The Sydney/Melbourne Route is serviced by two airlines, Qantas and Virgin, and according to there websites, they schedule 1021 flights a week between them – where does this route fit in to the above??

  3. Russ says:

Syd-Melb actually comes in at 851 and is positioned 4th busiest. If you have ever flown that route and had your flight cancelled you will understand the missing 170 flights.
