Further Delays for Boeing Dreamliner?

April 8, 2008 | Posted in: Dreamliner

Boeing announced that it will update its investors as to the progress of its 787 Dreamliner on Wednesday. While no official word has been released yet, most anticipate that Boeing will announce further delays for the airplane that some have said “will revolutionize commercial air travel.”

As reported by Reuters, most insiders are predicting another six-to-nine month delay. This would mark the third major schedule change for the Dreamliner’s release…

Another major delay for Dreamliner will likely cost Boeing millions of dollars. It also marks a setback in the ongoing Boeing vs. Airbus battle. While the Airbus A380 suffered delays of about two years, it has made its maiden voyage and is becoming a viable aircraft for international travel. As of now, the Dreamliner is about nine months behind schedule, so another delay will most likely put it on par with Airbus A380 delays. It will likely limit the number of 787s Boeing can have ready by its 2009 target.

I’ll let you know if any shocking news comes out of Boeing’s update tomorrow. In the meantime, though, I think it might still be a while before we witness Dreamliner’s “commercial air travel revolution.”
