Airlines Make Life Easy for America’s Comics

Filed under: Airlines — Rick Seaney @ 4:07 pm

You know things are getting bad when you’re openly mocked by “the Daily Show,” “the Colbert Report,” the Onion, “SNL,” and virtually every late-night talk show host in the course of just two weeks. Well, that’s how it is for the airlines these days. They’ve been reduced to a punchline, featured alongside whichever celebrity is melting down at the moment.

Colbert’s Summer Travel edition of the Threatdown calls out everything from canceled flights to interesting piercings, but I think the Onion may actually be on to something. Their idea of a “bold new leap” in air travel is having shuttle buses head out from airport runways to destinations all over the country. Sure, you’ll have to deal with the guy who wants to get off the bus every ten minutes to “grab a smoke,” but who knows, you might still get to your destination sooner than you would by plane.

Sometimes, when things get too crazy, all you can do is laugh:

“As of press time, Southwest’s inaugural shuttle-bus trip, from Dallas to Phoenix, is reportedly stuck in a traffic jam on I-10, because some *@$#!@# rear-ended a minivan and won’t move his car off the road.” (from the Onion)
