Did You Know? Busiest Flight Routes (by Passengers)

A few weeks we go, I highlighted the busiest flight routes by world region. With those statistics, “busiest” meant the largest number of weekly flights. Using those calculations, the busiest route in the United States is Honolulu-Kahului (Island of Maui). OK, fair enough. But what are the busiest flight routes in the US when it comes to sheer number of passengers?

Keep reading for a look at the Top 10 routes that service the most passengers annualy. In all honesty, you probably won’t be too surprised by the cities that dominate the list…

Top Domestic Routes with Most Passengers (February 2007 – January 2008)

  • New York – Chicago (3.45 million)
  • Washington DC – Chicago (2.75 million)
  • Atlanta – Orlando (2.75 million)
  • Atlanta – New York (2.7 million)
  • Los Angeles – Chicago (2.67 million)
  • Atlanta – Washington DC (2.6 million)
  • Fort Lauderdale – New York (2.53 million)
  • Denver – Chicago (2.5 million)
  • Las Vegas – Chicago (2.36 million)
  • Las Vegas – Los Angeles (2.28 million)

    Hey, this is great – but what if you consider metro-pairs?

    For example, SFO/OAK/SJC to all 5 LA Airports, for all intents and purposes covers a single metro-pair and probably ranks a lot higher on this list! Do you have those numbers?
