What’s the fastest operating commercial jet in the skies today?

The Boeing 747. It can fly at 605 miles per hour.

The fastest business jet? The Citation X. At the ever so slightly faster 607 mph.

Okay, so what USED to be the fastest passenger jet in the air? Hint: it wasn’t the Concorde. Keep reading!

The fastest supersonic passenger jet? Some of you will remember the Tupolev Tu-144, developed by the Soviets; it clocked speeds of about 1,555 mph. It stopped flying passengers in 1978, and stopped flying altogether in 1999.

The Concorde was good for an average speed of 1,330 mph. Its last flight was in 2003.

I’am driving now because seats are cramped, planes over booked, and I can get to my destination almost as fast…. And won’t have to rent a car when I get there and save more money …. Price is about the same otherwise, what with the rise in air fare!

Besides fuels I always wonder why planes are not made to be faster each year like computers. How much more would it cost to fly NYC to CDG at twice the speed?
