LATESTUPDATE! United starts new $20 airfare increase (18th attempt)
UPDATE: Rollback Rollercoaster — American, Delta, and United join Continental in rolling back $20 increase –while Northwest (late to the party) now matches the original increase. American Airlines was toying with an airfare hike Friday evening but Saturday they made it official with a $20 roundtrip hike across the bulk of its route system. Continental, Delta and United all quickly matched the $20 roundtrip increase across the bulk of their respective route systems - for good measure Air Canada and Midwest Airlines decided to come along for the ride. US Airways finally joined in on Sunday night. And Sunday night was when United took the opportunity to rollback that $20 increase in approximately 8000 markets for fares with 0 and 7 day advance purchase (but keeping the hike on tickets with 21 day and 30 day advance purchase fares). This is the 17th attempted airfare hike of the year, and as we all know, most of those hikes have been successful. |
