This must have been scary. A Qantas flight from Melbourne to Hong Kong had to make an emergency landing in the Philippines today after a giant hole appeared where the wing is attached to the fuselage of the 747-400. No one was hurt — amazingly. Passengers said, there was a big bang — a “violent” noise — and, according to one report, “explosive decompression.” Some of the cabin floor gave way, and luggage in the cargo hold was visible; at the same time, some of the plane’s ceiling was giving way.
