Police cited comedian Jerry Lewis at the Las Vegas airport yesterday for having a gun in his carry-on bag. The gun was not loaded. The 82-year old entertainer’s manager claimed the gun was a “hollowed-out prop” that Lewis sometimes twirls during his shows. The cop on the scene, however, said “we couldn’t cite him for carrying a weapon” if it was just a prop. And cite him, they did. |

This has been quite a year for comedian Jerry Lewis. Last August a false news story came out of the Muscular Dystrophy Association office in Las Vegas that the star fired his publicist Rick Saphire for asking Newsweek for $20,000 for an interview with Lewis. Shortly thereafter it was determined that Saphire was never Lewis’ publicist, and Saphire never had any communication with Newsweek. Additionally, it was disclosed that Lewis has been accepting high priced interviews for years. The following week, Jerry Lewis stated on national TV that entertainer Merv Griffin “deserved to die” from prostate cancer. A few weeks later on his MDA Telethon, Lewis referred to someone or something as an “illiterate fag!” He gave an apology for that one. A few months ago the comedian’s daughter from an out of wedlock romance in the 1950s, was discovered as being disabled and temporarily homeless. Jerry Lewis responded with “no response” to Suzan Lewis’ plight (www.SuzanLewis.com). On July 29, 2008 a story hit the world newswires that Jerry Lewis was detained and cited by police for trying to board an airliner at the airport in Las Vegas with a concealed 22 caliber pistol in his carry on luggage. Lewis’ manager claimed that it was a prop gun and could not be fired. The Las Vegas police responded with a different take. It surely was real. Considering all the above, maybe it’s Jerry Lewis’ manager who should be fired!
