Not too long ago, we told you about the changes at Delta. Now, American Airlines is revamping its frequent flier mile program, and unless I miss my guess, you’re not going to like it. For one thing, it’s now going to cost you between $50 and $350 to upgrade from “discount economy” fares (price depends on where you’re traveling to) — even though you’re using miles for the upgrade. That great website, Consumerist, cited this terrific comment from an aviation consultant, courtesy the Dallas Morning News:

Hello Rick,
I’ve been quite religiously following your interesting posts and have few questions for an upcoming trip.
How would you compare the following airlines on an international trip to Spain from San Diego.
1) United/Lufthansa.
2) Delta.
3) American Airlines.
I’m looking for airline delays, in-flight services and entertainment and baggage handling.
Also, for end of November travel, is it better to travel via JFK or Atlanta? Thanks a lot.
