Upbeat News for Airlines — Say It’s So…

August 11, 2008 | Posted in: Airline News,Fuel Surcharges

I feel like I have gotten in a rut highlighting things that aren’t going right in the world of passengers and airlines and I’m going to make a conscious attempt to be more upbeat…

What I am really looking forward to, is the day I can make that first, big announcement: that an airline has reduced its “temporary” fuel surcharge.

So here’s some good news to tide us over as we await that glorious day, some interestingly contrarian airline news — from Morgan Stanley. Their analysts are now cautiously optimistic that domestic airlines — which have set themselves up to survive at $130/barrel oil — could/should actually make a profit in 2009. That’s assuming the price of oil stays at its current level of about $115/barrel.

Those that didn’t buy any squares in the financial community’s “Which Airline Goes Bankrupt Next” office pools, are looking pretty good — right now.
