Good News – Air Canada Drops Bag Fee, “Ripple Effect” on Northwest

September 19, 2008 | Posted in: Airfare Sales, Northwest

Last night at 8pm, I noticed Air Canada and Northwest started dropping prices on U.S./Canada flights; the drop was about $129 for a roundtrip airfare as the same time United raised by $129, so there appears to be some serious jockeying around for travel over the northern border.

This appears to be related to the Canadian carrier’s decision to rollback its 2nd checked-bag fee which was announced yesterday – and the decision by Canada’s WestJet to rollback its fuel surcharges on U.S. flights.

Close to 20,000 transborder airfares were changed, so it looks like we will have a wild ride on these tickets for a few days — might be a good chance to jump in or at least check on those trans-border trips.

By the way, airlines aren’t the only ones fooling around with fuel surcharges – here’s one of the weirder stories about fuel surcharges, from our sister-blog, Standard Upright Position.

Hey! could Air Canada be the start of the dropping of these stupid fees? Go Air Canada – my new favorite airline!
