Lower-cost carrier AirTran has joined the ranks of the airlines that now charge a fee for checking any luggage: $15 for a first checked-bag, and it will maintain its $25 for a second bag fee. When asked why the airline is doing this, an AirTran spokesman was blunt:
The new fee goes into effect for new bookings, for travel on Dec. 5 or later. Those who bought tickets before today will not be charged a new fee. There is more information regarding this on AirTran’s website. |



One thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to take a lot longer to board a flight now because more people are carrying on, and overhead compartment space is filling up rapidly. It almost is worth sitting in the back of the plane and be one of the first groups to board and find a space for your luggage.
