There are about 300,000 travelers still stuck in Thailand, because of a week old protest against the government.? It has shut-down Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport since Nov. 25 — and, once the protest ends, it will probably take another full week to get the airport up and running again. GOOD NEWS: according to Bloomberg, carriers are being allowed to used the U-Tapao military airfield east of Bangkok for evacuations. BAD NEWS: the Thai government has warned that it could take a month to get all the passengers out from the airfield. SO-SO NEWS: some airlines, including Qantas and Air France-KLM, will operate ‘relief’ flights to fly out stranded passengers who can make their way to Phuket in Thailand — which is about 420 miles south of Bangkok — as the crow flies. Meanwhile, the Thai government says it has set aside money to feed and lodge the stranded — if you are among them, know that you are in our thoughts. |
