The owners of the inter-island airline, “go!” are moving to rename the carrier, “Aloha Airlines” — yep, the same name as the venerable, 60-year old Hawaiian institution that went bankrupt earlier this year — a bankruptcy Aloha blamed in part on an airfare war and “go!’s” allegedly “predatory pricing“. This news comes as go! parent Mesa Air Group says it has settled a lawsuit with Aloha’s former controlling shareholder. Smart move, or dumb? I know that Aloha had a lot of fans — but can the goodwill carry over, or will it be seen as a crass move on the part of an upstart? You tell me. |

I think it’s a bad move. Many folks in Hawaii hold a grudge against go! for essential causing the Aloha Airlines demise. So, I don’t think it’s a wise move to take over the airline’s name, too. That’s like salt in the wound.

Rick,
What are the prospects for summer 2009 airfares to Honolulu?
What do you see?
When do they generally decline?
Thanks,
Scott

One former Aloha pilot describes go! re-branding as “nauseating”.
