TSA Backs Away from “Registered Security Traveler” Program

December 8, 2008 | Posted in: DOT,Security,Travel Safety

The Registered Security Traveler program lives on, but without any involvement by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

In a comprehensive piece by Travel Weekly, they quote an aviation consultant who says it came down to money — it cost too much for too little in the way of security.

The money quote? It’s from Michael Boyd of the Boyd Group International:

“It was a very stupid idea in the first place. A background check means nothing. Remember that most of the 9/11 hijackers had no record and would have passed a background check.” –Michael Boyd, the Boyd Group
