Finnair: The Little Airline That Could

December 11, 2008 | Posted in: Airlines, Europe

There is a lot of bad news in the airline industry these days, so here’s a “good news” story for a change.

Finland’s national airline, the euphoniously named Finnair, announced its worldwide traffic actually increased in November — by more than 12%.

The proud execs at Finnair put out a press release to tout these numbers, and to remind people about “Helsinki’s convenient and uncongested airport, and our award-winning service on board.”

Now, just for comparison’s sake, Finnair transported 642,404 passengers in November — while the figure for Delta Airlines was 8,057,132.

Did they also mention how often baggage is misplaced or delayed at Helsinki airport?? EVERY SINGLE TIME I have flown with Finnair through Helsinki, my baggage has not made it onto the second plane with me. Once I even had a nine-hour stopover and the bag wasn’t transferred in time.
