Southwest Airlines Nationwide Airfare Sale Rings in the New Year

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rick Seaney @ 7:00 am

Remember those once-in-a-lifetime fares of $99 coast-to-coast? They’re back starting today (first come first serve).

Amazingly you can travel through the end of April — yes that includes Spring Break.

Prices range from $49 to $109 each way. Talk about a Happy New Year! Take a look at these sample airfares:

    • Baltimore to Orlando, $49 one-way
    • Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale, $59 one-way
    • Ft. Lauderdale to LA, $89 one-way
    • Baltimore to San Diego, $99 one-way
    • Chicago to Los Angeles, $99 one-way

Better Yet: most of the major airlines have matched on Southwest routes!

Searches on FareCompare.com for travel on Southwest routes show you the base starting price (at the top). A quick click to find seats on Southwest.com and you’re on your way (compares others as well).

Bookings must be done by Jan. 19, and there is a 14 day advance purchase requirement. Travel is good from Jan. 15 through the end of April.

One more thing: Southwest begins flights to Minneapolis in early March, and yes, it’s on sale too.

Some of you may have read my earlier ABCNews.com column post– in which I talk about 2009 being the Year of the Airfare Sales“.

Clearly this new Southwest sale to start New Years along with United’s Sale on New Years Eve, and all the matching — is beginning to make my prediction look pretty good.
