What Are the Airlines Doing Right? S-A-F-E-T-Y

January 12, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Travel Safety

U.S. airlines have broken a record, and it’s one to be proud of: two consecutive years (2007 and 2008) without any fatalities in an airline crash.

And according to a report in USA Today, it’s rare to go a single year without fatalities. Since 1958, there have been just four years without a single airline passenger death, which makes this latest two year string, extra impressive.

And there was only one major accident – that Continental jet that slid off a runway in Denver last month.

None of this is really big news to anyone who’s been flying much lately – but it should be celebrated (which I did, in one of my recent columns for ABCNews.com).
