Airfare War Alert: Bring it on, Boston!

March 3, 2009 | Posted in: Airfare Sales, American, Cheap Airfare Sales, Destinations

Please welcome the latest combatant: American Airlines.

The airline joins an increasingly crowded battlefield of players who want to own Boston – and they’re offering incredibly cheap deals to do so.

Here are some of American’s one-way deals – book by March 10, travel by May 20 – and see all the details here:

  • JFK to Boston, $57
  • Raleigh/Durham to Boston, $67
  • Dallas/Ft. Worth to Boston, $94
  • LA, San Diego or San Francisco to Boston, $117

Besides American, Virgin America, JetBlue and United have all been offering cheap airfare to Boston – I’d say now is the time to head to Logan International.

I know Southwest won’t start service for a while, but I have a feeling that will lead to continued competitive pressure, and continued low fares into BOS for the foreseeable future. The low prices out of Boston have been going on for a while, from what I understand. And I suspect most of these airlines are losing/will continue to lose $$ flying there, but will do so to gain market share. BOS is for sure a buyers market right now.

Although, then again, what do I know? I’m not an airfare expert.

Elliot — you sure sound like an expert!
