I think American is once again proving to be leaders in the industry. They were the first to install WiFi and now the others are playing catch up. I think this is a great asset and while it may not draw hordes of new customers, it most certainly will be appreciated by current passengers.
I avoid flying AA if possible, unless they are way cheaper than other competitors on the route. But despite my bias, I wouldn’t choose them (or any carrier over another, for that matter) based on the availability of wifi. Perhaps nice to have as an extra, but definitely not a necessity, and definitely not at the kind of prices they charge. All of my travel is personal, so I can’t justify the extra expense of wifi in the air. I could see why corporations would be willing to pay for their workers to be online while travelling. But for me, a few hours without access to email or the Web might be a nice break.
