London’s Luton Airport Will Soon Charge a Passenger Drop-Off Fee

How’s this for an unusual fee?

London’s Luton – a smallish airport with a single runway that’s home to discount airlines like EasyJet as well as charter aircraft – now charges a fee to drop someone off.

The fee – expected to go into effect sometime after the end of the month – is one British Pound, or about $1.46.

Why the new fee? Well, according to a Luton executive, “Making a small charge reminds drivers of the 10-minute time allocation and keeps the traffic flowing.”

Silly me – I thought it was simply a way to make more money.

People who arrive by train have always paid a surcharge. Passengers are normally charged a premium to cover costs associated with stations and line extensions. Now drivers get to pay their fair share for all the roadwork and upkeep.

Always glad to be more educated on London, one of my favorite places to visit (3 times last year)
