Here We Go Again! Another Airfare Hike. Will it Stick?

July 17, 2009 | Posted in: Airfare Increases, Airlines, Delta, Northwest, Pricing Activity

Last night, Delta (along with Northwest) initiated a domestic airfare hike of $10 roundtrip, across the bulk of its U.S. routes – the third attempt at a hike in the past six weeks – and, remember, the last two hikes were successful.

If this latest hike is, legacy carriers will have increased their domestic airfares by $20 to $25 since the summer flying season began.

Some good news: these hikes do not include international airfare, so if you were planning a trip to Europe, there’s still time to save. Plus, this latest hike will not affect the recent late summer/fall sale initiated by Southwest (and widely copied).

Meantime, I’ll be watching to see if others follow Delta’s lead, and will keep you updated.
