Republic Airways/Midwest Airlines Deal Complete

August 3, 2009 | Posted in: Airlines

Republic Airways still awaits an auction to see whether they or Southwest Airlines will acquire Frontier Airlines. However, Republic has been busy on other fronts, and now their move to purchase Midwest Airlines is complete:

“Midwest, based in suburban Milwaukee, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings…Republic acquired 100 percent of the equity of Midwest for $6 million in cash and a $25 million, five-year note, which may be converted to Republic stock at $10 a share.” (from Kansas City Business Journal)

Midwest had struggled of late, having to battle both AirTran and Southwest in Milwaukee. Republic has said that Midwest will continue to operate as a branded carrier, which if it holds true, will be of some consolation to travelers who have grown fond of Midwest’s customer service and chocolate chip cookies.
