FEE ALERT: American Raises International Check-in Rates

August 23, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Europe

This time, American Airlines is raising rates for international travelers.

Beginning September 14, economy passengers flying from the U.S. to India and most of Europe (including Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland) will now pay a fee for a second checked-bag – a hefty $50 (the first checked-bag is still free).

This will not apply to elite fliers, or those lucky enough to fly in business or first class.

As some of you know, I recently got back from Europe – a nearly 2-week long vacation – and I went the carryon route. Yes, it can be done.

More details on the fee change here – and a hat tip to Stanford student David Newell for alerting us to the change.
