Audio: Pilot Pleads to Deplane, Calls Situation “Ridiculous”

August 24, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Ask Rick,Delays,News,Storms

Remember those folks who were trapped on the tarmac in Rochester, Minn. earlier this month when a Continental flight operated by ExpressJet diverted there to avoid storms?

Thanks to the AP, we now have audio (below) of the pilot repeatedly asking that the passengers be allowed inside. In fact, you can clearly hear the pilot saying, “This is getting to be ridiculous”. Earlier, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood weighed in, praising the crew and characterizing the situation as “a complete lack of common sense.”

Question: LaHood seemed to shift blame to employees of Mesaba Airlines – apparently the only staff in the airport at that late hour — Mesaba disagrees with his findings — but, you mean to tell me there was no way to contact any airport officials? If not, why?

  1. Chris says:

Rick…. you realize that this AUDIO is a communication between the COEX pilot & her dispatcher NOT between the COEX pilot and Mesaba Groundcrew!!!!!

    Chris,
You are right and the post has been changed.
