Passenger Bill of Rights – Law Gets Closer to Reality

September 23, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Delays,Passengers,Travel Tips

Anyone remember those terrible storms in Dallas, back in Dec. 2006?

That’s when the push for a “passenger bill of rights” really began – when planeloads of people where stuck on the tarmac for 8-hours – or more.

A pretty big name is now onboard this particular bandwagon:

Robert Crandall, former CEO of American Airlines and a legend in the industry (he is credited with “inventing” frequent flier miles clubs) said overall, he supports this legislation – though he’d prefer the 3-hour maximum “on the tarmac” time be extended to 4-hours.

Keep reading – possible filibuster ahead!

Sen. Barbara Boxer of California (home of Kate Hanni of FlyersRights.org) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota have “threatened to filibuster any amendment that would strike out” the passenger bill of rights from FAA legislation, says the LA Times, which quoted Klobuchar as saying:

“We would talk as long as every passenger was left sitting on their flights.”
