Flight Attendants Star in New TV Show, “Fly Girls”. Hmm.

September 24, 2009 | Posted in: Flight Attendants

Oh, my.

The CW channel has announced that it will debut a new reality TV show a little later this fall called “Fly Girls” – which will feature real-live Virgin America flight attendants.

The description of this “docu-series” has me chuckling. According to CW execs, it’s about “real, down-to-earth young women who happen to have landed in an exceptionally glamorous, high-flying career filled with exotic locations and handsome strangers.”

Let’s compare “Fly Girls” to the daily drudgery of real flight attendants, shall we? Keep reading…

I’ll bet this item has veteran flight attendants on the floor with laughter. High paying? Glamorous?

Let’s see, much of their time is spent slinging drinks and snacks to surly passengers who are angry about packed planes and bag fees. Ah, but surely there’s some romance?

Well, one of the “handsome strangers” flight attendants encountered this year was “Naked Guy” – the man who took off all his clothes during a flight. And when it comes to “glamour”, it’s hard to beat the passenger who downed all that liquid soap on the plane, and had to be subdued.

What’s the reality? Flight attendants work very hard in return for little job security in this era of economic uncertainty – and yet, we depend on them to show brilliance, as they did during the “Miracle on the Hudson” landing.

My other criticisms: I thought we’d gotten far, far away from the old “Coffee, Tea or Me” stereotypes – which seems to be an undercurrent in this new TV show.

Another thought: sounds like this show won’t be mentioning any of the many male flight attendants who work for Virgin America and elsewhere.

If any of you flight attendants out there have a comment, I’m all ears.

If you’ve ever flown Virgin America you’d know that 99% of the female flight attendants are indeed in their early 20′ & drop dead gorgeous! Virgin follows the European, South American & Asian “old school” philosophy of hiring attractive, young women for the most part. Yes, there are men as well, but this show is just about the girls.

This concept is so silly and so FAKE!!!!! These girls are not living together!! They do not have a lush “Crash Pad” as shown on the show. Do they even know what a “real” crash pad is. One of the girls lives in the east bay with her boyfrined, one lives in Sacramento, and only one even lives in LA!

Each one of these girls is only in this job with Virgin America for the publicity aspect of it. Isn’t it strange that four of the girls on the show are the same four girls used in Virgin’s advertisements last year? Hummmmmmm……………?? Fly Girls my a**!! A more apt title should be “LYE GIRLS”. As in lye down with who ever you need to in order to sleep your way to Hollywood!

This is a disgrace to the airline industry and these girls should be laughed at for even trying to pretend that they know what being a real flight attendant is! I’m disgusted at this concept and ashamed of Virgin America for allowing such girls to represent the company and the job. This may just end up slapping all Virgin America’s Flight Attendants in the face! What a joke!!
