Pilots Protest in Europe (Give Yourself Extra Time to Airport)

October 5, 2009 | Posted in: Europe, Pilots

First of all, let me just say, I haven’t heard of any delays, but…

There are pilot demonstrations being held at 22 airports throughout Europe, and it’s probably a good idea to give yourself a little extra time.

The protest focus on pilot work hours – flying times – and the “fatigue factor”.

The pilots want European Union rules?aligned with the Moebus Report, a scientific study that was commissioned by the EU itself – which recommends that airline crews should not operate for more than 13 hours during the day, and 10 hours at night.

Current EU rules, however, say pilots can work up to 14 hours a day, and 12 hours at night.

A pilot in Brussels told CNN, “All we are trying to do at this stage is raise public’s awareness. We’re not trying to get in anyone’s way.”
