Europe to Drop Airline Liquid Ban, but Hold Your Horses

October 9, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Security

European Union transportation officials say those restrictions on the amount of liquid that can be carried through security and onboard planes, will be lifted – as soon as scanners that detect liquid explosives are in place.

But don’t look for changes immediately.

Those machines may not be available in many airports until 2012 – and it could take until 2014 until all European airports are outfitted with them.

And in the meantime, Britain is opposed to changing these rules – and will not participate according to news reports – which could create some sticky situations if you plan to travel there as well as to other European countries.

Might be simplest to just follow the same old rules, awhile longer…

Please, a 12 ounce bottle of unopened water shouldn’t be a problem. Maybe a rule like — bottle must be unopened and (maybe) have a receipt for the water bottle. I believe even unopened soda pop should be okay.

    Jim,

It is not difficult to place explosives in a water or soda bottle and recap it. Getting a receipt for the same type of bottle is even easier. The problem is not taking drinks through security. The problem is the price gauging on the other side of security.
