United to Give Elite Members Free, Unlimited Upgrades

October 13, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Frequent Flyer,Travel Tips,United

Coming in early 2010 – United Airlines says all its elite Mileage Plus members will start receiving “unlimited domestic upgrades”, or as it says on the carrier’s website, “They’re complimentary. They’re unlimited. They’re yours.” That is, if these “special” seats are available.

How it works: Elite members will no longer have to request an upgrade – it will be an automatic process for the member (and one companion) for travel in the U.S., Canada, Central America and the Caribbean.

Again, you must be a member of the “elites” which means you must rack up at least 25,000 miles a year (ask a mileage runner for tips on making elite status).

There is some fine print – read up on it here, before the “Unlimited Domestic Upgrade” program goes into effect sometime after New Year’s.

United- what a joke. Just returned from an overseas trip, using United on the last leg home. Haven’t flown United for years and it will hopefully be years until I do again. Their “upgrades” to a better economy seat which features 5″ more space between seats for a mere $44.00. Give me a break. They are a nickel and dime airline that deserves to go out of business for their nonesense ploys to their customers. Even one of their employees agreed with me. Fly Southwest or Alaska or Delta is you can. Southwest doesn’t nickel and dime you with luggage either. Huummmmmm I wonder why these other airlines are more sucessfull.
