Airplane Part Falls on Suburban Lawn

November 6, 2009 | Posted in: Airplanes, New York, Travel Safety

Has this ever happened to you? I hope not.

Some people in Roosevelt, New York (toward the western end of Long Island) called the police Thursday night, to report a “suspicious object” on their front lawn.

It was a rather large piece of metal (3′ X 4′) shaped like a cone – and, according to the cops, it came from a commercial airplane. At this point, nobody knows what airline it belonged to but if anyone’s missing anything, you can contact the Roosevelt P.D.

Fortunately, no one was hurt – and fortunately this is not an everyday occurrence for the good folks in Roosevelt, even if they are located just about 15 miles from JFK International.

Meanwhile, I’m sure the sound of that whatever-it-was hitting the ground was pretty darn nerve-wracking.
