Free WiFi in 47 Airports for the Holidays — Now thru Jan. 15

December 10, 2009 | Posted in: Business Travel, Destinations, Free, WiFi

An early gift from Google: It’s giving away free WiFi for the holidays – now through Jan. 15 – at 47 different airports, scattered throughout the U.S.

The list of airports does not include the biggest hubs: Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Los Angeles and New York are not on the list.

However, the free WiFi is available at the following: Boston, Burbank, Charlottte, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Pittsburgh, and Seattle to name just a few.

And remember, Virgin America begins offering free WiFi on all its planes also beginning today through Jan. 15.

Business travelers, are you listening? I know I am – and for holiday travelers, this could be a real lifeline in case of winter delays that deteriorate into the old “stuck-in-the-airport” syndrome.

how does Google give away “wi-fi”? I will be using SAN, but I see no details on how to take advantage of this “gift” and where?

    Joao,
I put a link in the story that names every airport with this new free service (which starts today) and it also takes you to FAQs about the service — http://www.freeholidaywifi.com/faq/ — and here are three of those FAQs: Q. Who is powering this service?

We are working with Boingo, Advanced Wireless Group, Time Warner Cable, Electronic Media Systems, Lilypad as well as numerous airports that provide wireless services themselves.

    Q. How long will the service be offered for?

The complimentary WiFi runs from November 10, 2009 through January 15, 2010.

    Q. How do I sign up for complimentary WiFi?

No login or email is required, simply select the option for the complimentary WiFi and accept the terms of service.
    Hope this helps,
    Rick

Las Vegas (LAS) always offers free wifi. Nothing new here or will they stop this service January 15, 2010?

  4. Rick Seaney says:

    Steel Phantom,
You’re right, and that’s a redundancy that I hadn’t noticed; as far as I know, it will not disappear come mid-January.
    Thanks,
    Rick
