Black Friday: Don’t Shop for Electronics, Adopt a Pet Instead

November 20, 2009 | Posted in: Airlines, Holiday Travel, Pets, Video

The people at the Best Friends Animal Society say, forget Black Friday shopping — instead, come pick up a cat (or maybe a dog) this coming Nov. 26th and 27th (Thanksgiving Day, and the day after). There is an adoption fee.

The society, based in Kanab, Utah, has teamed with Pet Airways – the only all-pet airline – to find homes for 26 cats, and there may be some “extra pets” on the flight, including (maybe) some dogs.

Pet Airways will make the pick-up in Kanab on Thanksgiving Day, and over the course of the next 48 hours, will drop off animals in Denver, Omaha, Chicago, Baltimore/DC and New York (Long Island). If you want one of these pets, be sure and fill out an application first (due this coming Monday, Nov. 23).

And just to show you the kind of animals sheltered at Best Friends (and, because my editor couldn’t resist), take a look at these cute puppies:

EDITOR’S NOTE: Distressingly, not everyone can see the “puppy video” – if you can’t, please click here to view – trust me, it’s worth it.

That’s a good message that people should actually listen to. I agree!

    Rob,
This could be the start of a whole new “Black Friday” tradition.

This is a great no kill shelter. They do a lot of good work. If no one has seen it they have a show on the National Geographic channel called Dog Town. As much as I would like to adopt another dog or cat I can not but, I made a donation to Best Friends. Thanks Rick!

    Matthew,
    Glad for your endorsement!
    Thank you for writing.
