Actually, what follows are Six Stupid Things that can ruin any travels…

But these are particularly dumb things to do during the holidays. Naturally, I’m sure none of you are ever guilty of these transgressions.

You might, however, wish to pass them along to your less-savvy travel brethren, and maybe save them some embarrassment. Or jail time.

The Six Stupid Things That Can Ruin Your Holiday Travels

1. Drink Too Much – Sure, ’tis the season to be merry, but don’t overindulge in alcohol before or during your flight. Many bad things can happen, including:

  • Airline crews might mistake your inebriation for illness, causing you to be detained (along with the rest of the plane) while they figure out if you have H1N1 or not
  • You could make a fool of yourself – and entertain the rest of the plane – by downing liquid soap after the crew cuts you off
  • You could go on a drunken rampage – and get duct taped to your seat – before facing hard time in prison
  • You might wander around an airport, giving away all your money

2. Count on Good Weather – Big mistake. In winter time, especially for can’t-miss holiday flights, you must leave extra time to get to the airport. And bring something to do during delays. And as every New Yorker knows, taxis hibernate in bad weather and your friends sure won’t pick you up, so think “car service” or subway.

3. Tweet Your Travels – Anecdotal evidence suggest some who announced travel plans on Twitter have been burglarized; even if that turns out to be just another urban legend, experts say don’t let everyone know when you’re away. Learn how to keep tweets private.

4. Bring Along Your Gifts – If wrapped gifts are in your carryon, the TSA will just unwrap them (and no, they won’t retie those pretty bows). If gifts are in your checked-suitcase, they could get stolen. Mail them ahead.

5. Travel Sick – You spent a bundle on your airfare, and you’re not going to let a little cold deter you – or a 103-degree fever – but the airline crews may not appreciate your stoicism, and could you send you packing. Say hello to the $150 change fee!

6. Let the Kids Scream – Sure, it happens: little ones cry and carryon but that’s why smart parents bring bribes of candy and toys! Otherwise, there is a possibility you could be put off the plane (it happened on a recent Southwest flight).
