How NOT to Behave at TSA Security – What a Pilot Did Wrong

December 4, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Pilots,Security

We may grumble about taking off our shoes and coats in the TSA security line, and some will question its usefulness, but – the whole point is to keep passengers safe – and you disobey the screeners at your peril.

As an AirTran pilot recently discovered.

The 57-year old man was convicted of this week of misdemeanor assault and fined $100 after a tussle with a TSA screener at the Newport News/Williamsburg Virginia airport in July – he was accused of grabbing the screener’s hand and throwing it off the tray containing his belongings. The judge in the case remarked that the pilot appeared “very combative”.

The security line is no place for confrontation. Learn the TSA security rules before you fly, and get answers to your questions on the TSA blog.

If you have a problem, the TSA provides you with complaint forms; they also have forms for compliments and suggestions.

Yes, security lines can be a pain – but I do appreciate the professionalism of the vast majority of screeners I come into contact with.

Thanks for leaving the link to the complaint form. I have not been able to find this myself on the TSA website. I am almost certain that my daughter’s iPod was stolen from her bag during a strangely performed security check at LAX last weekend, and I wanted to be able to send something to TSA.

    Alice,

Glad to be of help. So many people are asking about these forms, in fact, that I think it warrants a post of its own, and I’ll put one together in short order.

    Thanks for writing,
    Rick
