virgin america raises bag fees

Virgin America has announced it will hike its bag fees from $20 to $25.

This pretty much brings them in line with other carriers – except, Virgin America will charge $25 for a first and second checked bag – while the others typically charge $35* for that second bag.

In fact, if you decide to pack extensively, no problem – Virgin will charge you $25 per bag whether you check three, four or five suitcases – or even ten of them. Not true for other airlines: Delta, for example, charges $125 for a third checked-bag, and $200 for a fourth through tenth checked-bag.

One more thing to consider: most airlines have a bag weight limit of 50 pounds – but Virgin America allows you 70 pounds for that first checked-bag.

*Other carriers will typically knock a couple of bucks off the fee for first and second checked-bags, if you do online check-in. Our fee chart has the details.
